RAG DOLL BLUES: PARTS AND PIECES EXHIBIT by JOHN C. WORSLEY III
Location: Sequential Art Gallery + Studio, 328 NW Broadway #113, Portland OR 97209
Date: Thursday, October 4, 2012
Time: 6-10pm
Sequential Art Gallery welcomes back digital painter John C. Worsley, and his latest exhibit, "Rag Doll Blues: Parts and Pieces". The exhibit is a sequential narrative based on the deconstructed final art for "Rag Doll Blues", the newest album by Portland band Dead When I Found Her. The exhibit opens on First Thursday, October 4th, with an artist's reception from 6pm-10pm.
As Worsley explains, "A digital painting can be comprised of dozens of layers." Worsley has rearranged the art for the album into tradi tional comic book panels and added DWIFH lyrics as text. "For this series, the panels consist of visible and invisible layers alike taken from the original work and pushed out past the bounds of the finished frame." Worsley likens the finished result unto a fevered dream rather than a traditional comic.
John C. Worsley divides his time between professional video game design and programming, independent digital illustration, and electronic music. "Rag Doll Blues: Parts and Pieces" will close on Saturday, October 27th, at 5pm.

Callie loves theater. And while she would totally try out for her middle school's production of Moon Over Mississippi, she's a terrible singer. Instead she's the set designer for the stage crew, and this year she's determined to create a set worthy of Broadway on a middle-school budget. But how can she, when she doesn't know much about carpentry, ticket sales are down, and the crew members are having trouble working together? Not to mention the onstage AND offstage drama that occurs once the actors are chosen, and when two cute brothers enter the picture, things get even crazier! Following the success of SMILE, Raina Telgemeier brings us another graphic novel featuring a diverse set of characters that humorously explores friendship, crushes, and all-around drama!
