I was thinking of applying to be a vendor at this year's comics fest and I was looking online for various financial information about selling in Oregon. It was confusing, so I thought I'd ask those of you that have been in the same situation...

If it's a temporary event, do I need a business license in Portland? Is it expensive?

Thanks!
Morgan

Howdy, Morgan:

That's a good question - in the five years we've been doing this I've never heard of an exhibitor needing to get a special temporary vendor's permit to sell here. I know there is one in California, but I always figured that was because California has a sales tax, and Oregon doesn't.

The only information for temporary sales permits in the state of Oregon are concerned only with liquor sales.

If any of our out-of-town exhibitors from previous years have further information on this, i'd like to know as well!

Ok I called the Oregon Dept of Revenue and they told me this:

got to www.pdxbl.org
click on "taxes and fees"
scroll down to the link "file and pay online"
"Make Account"
on page 11, click on "initial exemption" this is if you plan to make under $50,000 (this is free)
then you will set the rest up and you'll have and account number
at tax time you will have to file in OR with what you made (not sure if they'll take a lot of taxes from it or not)

to close it out
same site
"taxes and fees"
business licenses
info
applications
out of business form

hope this helps everyone else
